Storm Damage to Commercial Roofs

Wind, Rain, and Hail, Oh My! Our recommendations on what to do.

Summer brings severe weather. Wind, rain, and hail can damage your roof system.

  • Rain can get into the roof if it is not buttoned up

  • Wind can blow areas off your roof

  • Hail can damage your roof by fracturing the roof membrane and cause an impact on the top of your building.

It’s important that you have somebody who has experience assessing storm damage.

In the residential world, if a hail storm blows through, there are going to be 100 people knocking on your door. In the commercial world, the typical protocol that we see is a building owner calls their insurance company first. Don't do that.

Call a roof expert, somebody who is well-versed in assessing storm damage, and have them get out onsite as your advocate to meet your adjuster on site.

That is the best way to make sure that you are going to be able to get everything covered that should be covered.

If a little area of your roof blows up, it does not mean that it is the only area of the roof that was damaged. When a commercial roof blows up, the wind gets underneath that membrane and it delaminates the rest of it, which means the next time there's a wind storm, you have a great likelihood that another area of that roof is going to blow up.

So it's really important that an expert looks at your roof to give you a good assessment and work hand-in-hand with your insurance company to make sure you are fully covered.

It's definitely something we can help you with as roof experts. Contact Us.
