Storm damage on commercial roofing can be complicated

Wind, rain, and hail can damage your roof system. Rain obviously can get into the roof if it's not buttoned up, wind can blow areas of your roof off, and hail can damage your roof by fracturing the membrane and causing an impact on the top of your building.

These things are critical to keeping an eye on, and you must have somebody who has experience assessing storm damage. In the residential world, don't worry if a hail storm blows through; there will be 100 people knocking on your door.

In the commercial world, the typical protocol that I see is a building owner calls their insurance company first. Don't do that. Call a roofing expert, somebody who is well-versed in assessing storm damage, and have them get out onsite as your advocate to meet your adjuster on site.

That is the best way to make sure that you will be able to get everything covered that should be covered. If a little area of your roof blows up, it does not mean that that is the only area of the damaged roof.

What ends up happening is when that roof blows up, the wind gets underneath that membrane, and it delaminates the rest of it, which means the next time there's a wind storm, you have a great likelihood that another area of that roof is going to blow up.

So it's essential that somebody that knows what they're doing is looking at your roof and is giving a good assessment and working hand in hand with your insurance company if that's the direction it goes to making sure the right thing is done, and you are fully covered. It's definitely something we can help you with. Contact us at sales@roofoptions.com
