Rubber Roof or EPDM Roof

Extremely durable commercial roofing that is better for the environment.

About Rubber Roofing (EPDM)

For 50+ years, EPDM (Rubber) Roofing has been one of the most frequently used roofing systems in the USA. Building experts know that EPDM is a high-performance and energy-efficient roofing system.

  • Known as a “rubber roof” EPDM is an extremely durable thermoset, synthetic rubber roofing membrane widely used in low-slope buildings

  • EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, and is commonly known as Rubber Roofing

  • EPDM is a synthetic rubber elastomer derived from oil and natural gas (ethylene and propylene). It is available in black coating or white coating and comes in widths ranging from 7.5 feet to 50 feet and in two thicknesses, 45 and 60 mils

  • EPDM, commonly known as Rubber Roofing installation is fully adhered, mechanically attached or ballasted, with the seams of the roofing system sealed with liquid adhesives or specially formulated tape sealant

  • It’s suitable for installation on new roofs and reroofing projects

Benefits of Rubber Roofing (EPDM)

  • Popular choice for the cost

  • EPDM has superior tensile strength, and when it’s time for replacement, offers a fully recyclable membrane

  • EPDM provides good barrier to corrosive chemicals, diluted mineral acids and oils

  • EPDM rubber reflects heat and helps cut cooling costs in summer and acts as an insulator during the colder months, to help reduce heating costs

  • EPDM provides an impermeable surface that doesn’t pollute water runoff from the roof, which is better for the environment

  • EPDM is fire resistant

  • EPDM may qualify building owners for LEED points and meeting ASTM standards

  • The material resists ozone deterioration

  • Provides a smooth, beautiful finish

  • Wide membrane widths mean fewer seams and increased efficiency during installation

  • Ballasted EPDM roofs are acceptable alternatives to cool roof systems—with the ballasting providing higher membrane protection and reduced thermal mass

  • Easily repaired and restored, with repair materials such as caulk, heat tape, patch

How long does a Rubber EPDM Roof last? Life Expectancy

A properly installed and maintained EPDM roofing system can last up to 30 years as it is resistant to the sun’s UV ( ultraviolet) rays. Longevity is a key feature of a rubber EPDM roof.
